Cookies
Everything this site stores in your browser, and how to refuse it. Last updated 31 July 2026.
The short version
Until you press Accept, we store nothing on your device for analytics. Visits are still counted, but anonymously and without touching your browser: PostHog computes a one way hash on its own servers and discards the inputs the same day. If you press Accept, PostHog stores a cookie so your visits can be linked together over time.
To stop analytics entirely, use the opt-out page. It stops PostHog loading at all, across carrick.tools, docs.carrick.tools and app.carrick.tools.
What gets stored
Strictly necessary
These are set without asking, because the site cannot work without them.
| Name | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|
carrick_no_analytics | Records that you opted out of analytics, so we can honour it. | 400 days |
carrick_cookie_consent | Records your answer to the banner, so we stop asking. | Until cleared |
carrick_oauth_state | Protects the GitHub sign-in flow against cross-site request forgery. | Minutes |
| Dashboard session | Keeps you signed in to app.carrick.tools. | On sign-out |
Analytics, only after you accept
| Name | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|
ph_*_posthog | PostHog. Recognises your browser across visits so returning visits are not counted as new people. | 12 months |
Chat
| Name | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|
| Crisp | Keeps your chat conversation attached to you if you message us and come back later. | 6 months |
Crisp is a separate service from our analytics, so the analytics opt-out
does not switch it off. Block client.crisp.chat in your
browser or content blocker if you do not want it.
Refusing or changing your mind

More on what we do with the data is in the privacy notice.
